Prototype Information

As you could guess, images of South Elkins before 1930 are very hard to find. A few books have been helpful, as have Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps. Here are a few vital parts that have come together.

Elkins Tannery
This long and low complex lasted into the late 1960's. It originally opened as Kistler Tanning, then became Elkins Tanning during my period of interest. I am not sure what names this business held as the years went by, nor do I know the year when it closed down.
